FOR THE UNION FOR INDEPENDENCE

As one of the UN’s founding members, the UK has an influential position within the UN. The reapplication process for an independent Scotland may not be as timely as planned, since each new member state must apply to each UN specialised agency separately.[1] Further to this Scotland will be required to pay its own share of contributions to the UN.[2]

Upon Independence the Scottish Government will seek to obtain membership to the United Nations.[1] Since Scotland already meets the membership requirements as part of the UK, this will be a straightforward process.[2]
